The Voice of Overseas Filipinos

Yesterday's rally at Makati City was an affirmation of the People's disapproval to change the constitution of the Philippines, more so with the manner that Speaker Nograles and cohorts want it done. Filipinos have likewise used the cyberspace to condemn these deceptive and canard acts. The distrust has metamorphosed to abhorrence. Changing the constitution of this country via Constituents Assembly on their own (Lower House) is a display of political arrogance substantially influenced by their benefactor who wields the power to their PDAF. I doubt if the Congressmen headed by Speaker Nograles do not understand the processes of changing the constitution - they are not as dumb as many of us think. Many of them are lawyers, businessmen, MBAs and professional politicians - educated. It is the value of GREED that is common among Nograles and cohorts -the greed to personally gain from their "pork barrel", the greed funds in the coming elections and the greed to stay in political power. In the name of greed, they have rejected honesty, integrity, principled governance and responsible leadership. Because of what they are showing and doing, young politicians may emulate them in the future. They are creating the breeding and training grounds for future political weeds and parasites.

The intentions to change the constitution at this time are so clear – to extend the term of the President so that she can buy time to fix all the problems she and her family created for themselves. There is no escape to these, they should realize. Look at Marcos. More than twenty years have passed and still cases are undergoing.

The argument of Nograles et. Al. is to push constitutional change to effect amendments for economic reforms. Mr. Nograles, you think many Filipinos are as dumb as you are? What economic reforms are you talking about? Will changing the constitution

a) Solve unemployment ?
b) Solve dwindling exports?
c) Decrease oil prices
d) Stabilize the peso?
e) Decrease poverty
f) Decrease or stabilize food prices
g) Create food sufficiency
h) Stabilize or decrease costs of education
i) Decrease or stabilize electricity costs
j) Stabilize transport costs
k) Evenly develop provinces and regions

What economic reforms is Nograles talking about?
